　インターネットで毎日作品を発表するようになって10年以上、さまざまな国の人が作品を見に来てくれるようになりました。私の作品のテーマが「見立て」なので、老若男女国籍問わず、誰にでもわかるモチーフを探すというのが大切。そういうこともあり、海外へ出張した際に注目するのが、その国独特の文化より、どの国にでも共通する文化です。例えば「トイレットペーパーやトイレの便器の形はどの国も同じような形だな」、「マンホールはどの国でも丸いな」、「マクドナルドのポテトはどの国でも同じ味だな」などなど。
　「見立て」を通じて、国は違えど同じ暮らしをしている人間だと知ることで、思いやることができ、結果的に世界平和につながると考えるようになりました。「結局は小さな世界なんだ」とIt’s a Small Worldの英語の歌詞にありますが、まさにその通りです。
　本書の小さな世界を旅することで、現実の世界も近い存在に感じてもらえると思います。読了後はぜひ本当の海外旅行へ。世界は小さいので、どこへでも行けるはずです。

Every day, for more than a decade, I’ve been sharing my work on the internet and people from all over the world have taken a look. My pieces use “mitate,” they strive to liken one thing to another, so it’s important that I seek out motifs that will be understood by everyone, regardless of their age, gender and nationality. With that in mind, when I travel abroad, rather than focus on unique cultural traits, I look for things we have in common, similarities in our toilets and toilet paper, the uni- versal roundness of manholes, the flavor of McDonalds’ fries… Through my work, I have come to believe that if we can see our similarities and feel sympathy for one another, it will ultimately lead us to world peace. It’s just like the words in that song, “It’s a small world after all.”
Traveling in the small world in this book, I hope you will feel closer to the real world. And when you’re done reading it, I urge you to travel abroad. It’s a small world, so you should be able to go anywhere.
